WEST NILE VIRUS UPDATE

With the onset of spring, city residents should also be aware that it is also the onset of mosquito breeding season. Outside containers, unopened swimming pools and any place where water can pool and stagnate will breed mosquitoes and invite West Nile Virus.

As a result the City and the Middlesex County Mosquito Extermination Commission ask that every resident work to reduce the number of places where mosquitoes can breed.

  • Empty containers holding standing water

  • Keep pool covers dry and free of stagnant water

  • Cover unopened pools

  • If you collect rainwater for gardens, keep the containers tightly screened and use within 4 to 7 days to limit mosquito breeding

If you know of a pool or large potential mosquito breeding ground call the Middlesex County Mosquito Extermination Commission at (732) 549-0665 or 1454.
