Temporary Water Discoloration Possible in Rutgers Village Area Tuesday as Part of Main Replacement Project
New Brunswick Water Utility staffers are handling preparations today to transfer water service over to the newly installed water main on Tunison Road as part of an ongoing main replacement project in Rutgers Village.
This involves exercising valves that will isolate the old water main, so that it can be fully disconnected later this week. The opening and closing of valves changes the direction of water flow and may cause some temporary water discoloration as a result of the dislodging of iron residue in pipes.
Water remains safe for use, but residents may wish to refrain from doing laundry or using hot water until discoloration has settled.
