City Rent Control Office Working with Tenants & Landlords in the Midst of State-Ordered Eviction Moratorium
Among the many steps taken thus far by NJ Governor Phil Murphy as a result of the COVID-19 crisis has been to protect residents from eviction or foreclosure during the pandemic. With many state and City renters facing full or partial layoffs or reduced work hours, or forced to stay home with children whose schools have been ordered shut down, they’re sure to face financial hardships including the potential of missing rent payments.
Any tenant or landlord who may have questions or concerns, or believes the Rent Control Office may be of some help, can call 732-745-5050. Please remember the state-ordered moratorium does not mean renters are no longer required to make their monthly rent payments; it just means they are protected from eviction during the COVID-19 crisis.
Property owners are also reminded the April 1 deadline to submit their completed residential rental registration forms is approaching quickly. The form was mailed out to owners in January for completion. Should a replacement form be needed it can be downloaded from the City’s website, cityofnewbrunswick.org.
