Question to Expand Size of City Council to Appear on November Ballot

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (July 30, 2020) – Registered voters in the City of New Brunswick will decide on November 3, the day on which the general election is scheduled to be held,if the City Council should be expanded from its current 5 members to 7.

A committee of petitioners submitted a letter to the City Clerk in February calling for the City Council to add 2 additional members, citing the larger representation would be more reflective of New Brunswick’s growing and diverse population.

As per Governor Phil Murphy’s Executive Order 164, elections that would otherwise have been scheduled between July 7, 2020 and November 3, 2020 were postponed until November 3.
