Municipal Court Closed Until November 20 Following COVID-19 Exposure

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (November 5, 2020) - The New Brunswick Municipal Court will begin an immediate 14-day closure due to a coronavirus exposure. A court employee tested positive earlier this week for the virus that causes COVID-19, forcing the facility to close immediately and begin a deep cleaning and thorough sanitization.

Despite this closure, several services provided by the court will continue (including online services) while others will be impacted and delayed:

  • Bail reviews, which are mandatory within 48 hours of an arrest will be conducted by the Central Judicial Processing (CJP) court.

  • Tickets and citations will not be entered into the court’s computer system over this period.

  • Scheduled virtual hearings have been postponed and will be rescheduled.

  • Cases involving probable cause will be conducted remotely by a judge.

  • Private citizens wishing to file complaints can do so at the New Brunswick Police Headquarters at 25 Kirkpatrick Street.

  • The court’s drop box will be closed for the duration. Those needing assistance should contact the Court after it reopens on November 20th.

During this period, the Court’s main number and voicemail box will be monitored. Those with questions are asked to call 732-745-5089, or to email nbmc@cityofnewbrunswick.org

Updates will be provided through the Municipal Court page on the City of New Brunswick’s website.
