Music, Culture and Active Living At October 14 New Brunswick Ciclovia

New Brunswick Ciclovia will feature special activities, performances and fun on October 14 as the event returns for its final date of 2018.

New Brunswick Ciclovia is a family-friendly event that emphasizes healthy living and community building by opening our streets and offering programming for all to enjoy.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., streets throughout New Brunswick will become temporarily car-free on a route without a beginning or an end. The route includes portions of Joyce Kilmer Avenue, Kirkpatrick Street, Patterson Street, George Street, Hamilton Street and College Avenue.

Participants are free to travel in any way they choose, whether it be walking, running, biking, skateboarding or dancing.

Activity Zones will be set up along the way, featuring activities in the themes of art, fitness, health and wellness, culture and safety. Each zone will be full of free and family-friendly activities, such as DJs, health screenings, games, information tables, a rock wall, and more.

Enjoy games, fitness demonstrations, live music, dance performances, health information and a lot more as you travel the route. Free water stations and bike repair stations will also be set up along the route.

The Cultural Zone, located on Joyce Kilmer Avenue, will host the Corazon Latino Festival, a celebration of Latino and Caribbean music, dance, dress and culture. Performances will take place throughout the day and vendors will be set up along the route.

Corazon Latino Festival will feature music, dance and performances throughout the day.

Additionally, the Mercado Esperanza will take place in Joyce Kilmer Park from 12-6 p.m., featuring vendors, group fitness, activities for kids and more.

Free parking for New Brunswick Ciclovia will be available at the Mayfair parking lot, located on Bayard Street near the intersection of French Street (just past the train trestle).

Ciclovia (sih-clō-via) is an international-observed healthy living and open streets event in which roads are closed to vehicles and open to families, friends and neighbors to join together in healthy activities.

New Brunswick Ciclovia is a community collaborative organized by the City of New Brunswick, New Brunswick Tomorrow, Johnson & Johnson, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Rutgers University, with assistance from more than two dozen additional community organizations.

New Brunswick Ciclovia’s goal of fostering a community of health and wellness continues to grow, as last year, more than 15,000 residents and visitors took to the streets as part of the New Brunswick Ciclovia movement.
