Healthy Eating on Wheels in New Brunswick!
Our community is celebrating a brand-new health and wellness resource that brings fresh, healthy food and nutrition information directly into our neighborhoods.
The Wellness on Wheels (WOW) vehicle is a 35-foot RV that serves as a hydroponic greenhouse as well as a mobile cooking studio and health screenings vehicle, all in one!
It will not only bring fresh fruits and vegetables directly to doorsteps of local schools, houses of worship, medical buildings and community-based organizations, it will also promote healthy eating and nutrition programs for all it serves.
Its purpose is to address food insecurity by promoting proper health and nutritional habits and doing so by bringing these resources and health professionals directly into neighborhoods and to community sites to work with our residents.
On October 3, a host of community partners, including Mayor Cahill, Freeholder Director Ronald Rios, RWJBarnabas President and CEO Barry Ostrowsky, Senator Bob Smith, Assemblyman Joe Danielsen and PRAB CEO Jose Montes welcomed the new vehicle as it was parked outside of PRAB’s Preschool Learning Center on Drift Street.
New Brunswick schoolchildren also explored the WOW vehicle and played nutrition games.
The WOW was produced by RWJBarnabas Health in partnership with MedPro Wellness, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Ecomedia.
The public will have a chance to catch the WOW in action at New Brunswick Ciclovia, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 14! It will be parked in the vicinity of Joyce Kilmer Park.
