NBFD Fights Fires and Raises Breast Cancer Awareness

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the City of New Brunswick is again offering special shirts as a fundraiser to help raise money to combat breast cancer in our local community.

Mayor Jim Cahill and members of the New Brunswick Fire Department model this year’s fundraiser t-shirts.

Now through October 31, all members of the New Brunswick Fire Department will perform their duties in the custom-made shirts to raise visibility and awareness for the cause.

The shirts are available for a donation of $20 each. Hooded sweatshirts are also available by order for $30 per sweatshirt.

100 percent of the proceeds benefit Sister2Sister a Somerset-based nonprofit organization that offers support and advocacy for African-American women affected by breast cancer. This organization has been a partner with the fire department for past years of this fundraiser.

“Breast cancer has affected the lives of many in our local New Brunswick community and we are proud to be able to do our part to help those who have been affected by this disease,” said Fire Director Robert Rawls.

To purchase a shirt or a sweatshirt, please contact Cheryl Smith at NBFD headquarters at (732) 745-5254.
