SNJ_NEW-BRUNSWICK_RGB-300x224New Brunswick Achieves Second Consecutive Sustainable Jersey Certification!
The City of New Brunswick’s commitment to smart planning and best practices has been reaffirmed through its newest Bronze certification via Sustainable Jersey!

Sustainable Jersey is a voluntary program that allows municipalities to formally document and develop their “green” initiatives in multiple areas of local governance. The program looks to bolster ongoing initiatives in communities statewide to best position their policies for success today and in the future.

New Brunswick first achieved Bronze certification in 2015.  It is one of 153 municipalities in New Jersey to presently hold Bronze certification in the program.

In order to maintain its status, City officials were asked to document sustainable and eco-friendly policies and programs through a points system. Substantial documentation was provided to explain each City-based initiative, such as the Clean City Block Captains program, participation in the national Project Medicine Drop program and the City’s Complete Streets policy, all of which compliment Sustainable Jersey’s objectives.

New Brunswick successfully completed 23 actions on the application for a total of 240 points. This score is higher than that of 2015 for the City, due in part to its focus on sharing information via social media and cityofnewbrunswick.org.
