The City's energy aggregation program with Direct Energy concludes in December at the end of our 17-month contract. You may have received a letter from PSE&G indicating that your electrical energy supply will revert to PSE&G at that time. The transition is automatic, and you need not do anything.
The City will go out to bid again for a new Municipal Energy Aggregation program in early 2021 when energy rates across the board are a bit lower. Information for a new program will be sent to all account holders, and will be featured on the City’s website and social media as 2021 plans are made. Outreach will take many forms in an effort to get the info to all account holders.
As always, be aware of independent 3rd party suppliers that may start soliciting individual account holders with promises of low rates. These solicitations come by mail, phone call, email, or in person at your door. Do not give your PSE&G statement or any identifying information contained on it, to any representative unless you truly wish to do business with a 3rd party supplier outside of the City’s municipal energy program. Finally, beware of phishing scams whereby a 3rd party supplier can phone you and make PSE&G's phone number appear on your caller ID. When in doubt, hang up and call back PSE&G to find out if they tried to reach you. If they did, it will be noted in your file.
Please remember that all information regarding a new Municipal Energy Aggregation program will always arrive by mail on City of New Brunswick letterhead.
